More visitors than ever before are choosing Queensland for their holidays. To ensure continued growth, our tourism industry is developing new and improved attractions and experiences.
We are committed to growing Queensland's $23 billion tourism industry and partnering with local governments, not-for-profit organisations and private tourism operators to lead the development of new tourism infrastructure.
Through the Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund we are:
- building resilient businesses, regions and communities
- boosting economic returns for the state
- developing new tourism experiences and attractions
- creating new sustainable jobs
- increasing visitor expenditure.
Economic Recovery funding
The $25 million Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund 2020/21 is a key element of the Queensland Government's Economic Recovery Strategy: Unite and Recover for Queensland - creating jobs to help accelerate the State’s recovery from COVID-19.
This funding boost is fast-tracking the development of new and enhanced tourism infrastructure projects and helping to strengthen Queensland’s tourism industry and deliver economic benefits to across the state.
The key objectives of the Fund are to:
- fast-track shovel-ready projects that can commence within two-three months of approval
- create new jobs in both construction and on-going operational phases
- build sustainable new and improved infrastructure and products that enhance tourism experiences
- increase overnight visitor numbers and expenditure
- deliver regional economic benefits.
Funded projects
Our funded projects stretch across the state and include some Australian firsts. These new infrastructure projects will help to attract more visitors to the Queensland and also increase economic development in regional parts of the state.

North Stores is an exciting new food, art, workshop and event tourism offering at Tamborine Mountain.

We supported Brisbane’s iconic Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to build a new immersive wildlife experience and exhibits.

Splitters Farm is located 10 minutes north of the Bundaberg CBD and offers visitors a unique rural camping and farm stay experience.

We have supported the diversification of BIG4 Sandstone Point Holiday Resort.

The Eromanga Natural History Museum showcases the incredible diversity of the Outback’s natural history – from the tiniest fossils to the mightiest dinosaurs Australia has ever seen.

We supported Woodfordia to expand its accommodation offering at events.

We’re supporting the expansion of sustainable short-term accommodation at Wyaralong.

Dusty Hill Vineyard in the South Burnett region is expanding with new accommodation options and a boutique brewery and distillery for guests to enjoy.

We’ve supported Macadamias Australia with a $936,450 investment towards the development of this project to help boost Bundaberg’s local economy.

We have supported Aussie World with an investment of $763,000 for the installation of a new roller coaster thrill ride and car park.

We’ve supported Amaze World (formerly known as Bellingham Maze) to develop a new experience that combines outdoor attractions with the digital world to offer new and immersive 21st Century augmented reality experiences.

TreeTop Challenge has developed a world-class Junior Adventure Park specifically designed for children aged three to nine years.

The development of the Capricorn Dinosaur Park at Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary is now complete

The Wildcat Mackay catamaran offers tourists an all-inclusive, eco-friendly day tour to view hidden treasures off the coast of Mackay.

The $1.5 million Townsville Eco Resort project delivered 10 new glamping tents and 13 powered campsites for caravans.

The revitalisation of the Green Mountains Campground was completed in 2020.

The Queensland Government provided $500,000 to support the construction of the CrocArena attraction at Wildlife Habitat, Port Douglas.
